Two Benefits of Proper Insulation

Insulation can be a pain; it's itchy, hard to work with, and overall an unpleasant experience. However, it's one of the most important (if not the most important) components of proper heat and air control in your home. If your home in Jenks, OK has poor heating control or lacks insulation, you should consider its many benefits.

1. Heating and Cooling Control

Insulation, as the name might also suggest, is most well-known for its use as a control for heat and air conditioning in your home. The pink, fluffy material is usually installed in your home's walls and in the attic or right below the roof. The material is made so it contains small pockets of air. As hot air rises to the top of your home naturally, the heat tries to conduct through these air pockets in the fluff. Heat transfer through air, called radiation, is the slowest way heat can transfer. Because the transfer is slowed so much by these pockets of air, heat takes a long time to escape out of the roof of your home.

2. Fire Protection

Most sources agree that insulators slows the spread of fire by at least 50 percent. Most insulators are made out of fiberglass, which needs extremely high temperatures to burn. This means that the fire will need to get hot enough to burn through the insulator before it can reach your roof. This means your home is more structurally sound in a fire. There is also a type of insulator made out of cellulose: a type of plant-based material. Not only is this better for the environment, but it is typically coated in a fire-resistant spray that limits the spread of fire even more than tradition fiberglass-based materials.

Despite its somewhat difficult nature, insulation is a huge benefit to your home, and many professional roofers strongly recommend installing it. Not only does it help with heating and cooling efficiency, it also assists in controlling the spread of a home fire.
