Roof Damage: 3 Things To Do After a Storm

Regardless of where you live, storms are a regular part of every homeowner's life. To help extend the life of your home, you want to do regular inspections to look for storm damage. One especially susceptible part of your Broken Arrow, OK, home is your roof. After every storm, conducting a roof inspection can ensure that you catch minor problems before they become catastrophic, saving you time and money in the long run. Here are three things to look at your roof for after a storm.

1. Remove Debris

High winds can easily bring down tree limbs and cause small objects from the ground to end up on your roof. Clean all debris off of your roof as soon as possible. The debris can allow water to well up under them, making it easier for the water to make its way under the roofing system, causing roof damage.

2. Repair Cracked Shingles

One of the most common signs of roof damage after a storm is damaged or missing shingles. If you see that you have even one shingle that has been torn out of place, replace it right away. You also want to look at the health of the shingles. If you notice that they have started to bubble or form small blisters, water has gotten inside the shingle, and you'll need to fix that section.

3. Fix Broken Gutters

Gutter damage can be just as problematic as missing shingles when it comes to roof damage. If the gutters are full of debris, clean them out. Additionally, ensure that you re-secure the gutters to the fascia board if they were pulled loose in the wind. If you notice any loose or soft roofing materials around the gutters, call a roof replacement professional, such as Lewis Roofing, to address your problem.

Large storms can do a number on your roof. However, when you look for signs of damage and quickly call in the professionals for help, you'll find that you have nothing to worry about.
